RMG In-Line Wire Drawers for Fasteners
RMG Fastener Wire Drawers
RMG and Fastener Engineers pioneered the commercial use of the in-line wire drawing process for the fastener industry starting in 1962. We are the only machine tool manufacturer in our field to have been awarded patents for innovative wire processing solutions meeting our customer’s needs. Our robust wire drawing machines are used by virtually every major fastener and bearing manufacturer in the world. RMG provides the broadest range of in-line wire drawers to the fastener marketplace, from our Model 200 for micro-formed parts to the Model 1922 for 35mm headers or anything in between.
RMG Spacesavers
Do you have space constraints? RMG’s patented Spacesaver design has helped many of our customers better utilize their valuable floor space. Our Spacesaver consolidates our in-line wire drawer with an integrally mounted turntable.
Benefits of our In-Line Wire Drawers for Fasteners
In-Line Wire Drawing is by definition “Lean Manufacturing.” Wire is being handled and processed efficiently at the direct point of use. Customers quickly realize reduced inventory, improved productivity, greater flexibility and most importantly, reduced total cost. Even customers who draw their wire off-line in their own facilities are employing in-line wire to reduce setup times, reduce inventory and eliminate quality problems.
- Lower Material Costs: Saving in production costs, because pickled and limed rod or semi-finished wire is used instead of more expensive, finish drawn wire. This selection provides your company a competitive edge in high production environments.
- Just-In-Time Inventory:Inventory reduction with the use of fewer basic wire diameters that the in-line drawer uses to create infinite diameters. By reducing the number of sizes you stock, your company reduces total material costs. In addition, you improve your flexibility and responsiveness to your customers changing requirements.
- Exact Diameter Control: An In-Line wire drawer provides perfect, tight tolerance wire at the point of use. This benefit provides for coil-to-coil consistency. The cast and quality of your material is now optimum for feeding into your production equipment, allowing for repeatable set ups and superior straightness.
- Improved Metal Formability: Freshly drawn wire is easier to straighten or form. In-Line wire drawing eliminates “age hardening” and handling damage problems that are prevalent with the off-line wire drawing process.
- Improved Tooling Life: Parts produced using In-Line wire drawing require less forming force, thereby improving tooling life. In addition, consistent volume control means consistent heading tonnage which, in turn, consumes fewer tools.
- Improved Wire Conditions: In-Line wire drawing provides a constant flow of clean and controlled wire to the production machine, as the wire has no time to oxidize, deteriorate or be damaged from sitting in inventory waiting for production. Even with the best handling practices of finished wire, it can have imperfections from the recoiling process and transportation. When off-line drawn wire is recoiled, the cast, condition and quality of the wire is compromised. Surface and substrate imperfections, from the recoiling process, introduce variations in the cold-forming process.
- Elimination of Short Feeds: RMG In-Line wire drawers provide a “storage loop” of wire and isolate the weight of the coil from the feed system of the production machine. Our wire drawing machine matches the production machines wire requirements, keeping a constant supply of “load free” wire always available.
- Reduction in Downtime: Larger, heavier coils can be utilized. The wire drawer is a huge winch capable of pulling the heaviest of wire coils. By isolating this weight of the coil from the feed system of the production machine, your operators can set the feed pressure for the correct operation of the production machine without concerning themselves with the weight of the coil.
Standard Features
- “Patented” one-way clutch wire relaxer rolls provide more tractive force by preventing slipping of the last wrap of wire
- Durable through-hardened D2 tool steel capstan
- Heavy duty planetary gear box Models 500 thru Model 1922 (Model 200 high torque gearmotor)
- Full capstan cover with electrical interlock
- Full machine enclosure for reduced maintenance costs and safety
- Two hand jogging with all operator controls conveniently located out of wire line
- STARTGARD (production machine interlock) prevents starting of header if the wire drawer is not set to automatic operation, and shuts down header if there is a fault from the wire drawer
- SLIPGARD (forward compensator over travel switch) signals the header to stop if the capstan cannot produce wire as fast as required
- Energy-efficient, variable-frequency drive with premium efficiency motors are over 50% more efficient than older hydraulic technology, saving thousands of dollars on an annual basis, and they are environmentally friendly and reduce maintenance costs
